“I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:10-14 NIV
Group Questions
Our hope is that you would not only hear the Word of God but have the opportunity apply it. For this reason we have included discussion questions to further your conversation in your family or group about hard gifts. Take some time to discuss the following questions.
Paul begins verse 10 with the declaration, “I want to know Christ…” Paul presents a deeply rich understanding of Jesus’ rule and reign over all things that should affect how we live our lives. In this season of uneasiness how can we know Jesus in an intimate way that shapes our response to this difficult season? How is Jesus calling you to walk in faith?
Pastor David talked about how we want to avoid pain and suffering at all costs. Why do we seek to avoid pain and suffering? Does Jesus promise that our lives will be free of pain and suffering?
Take a moment and read 1 Thessalonians 2:8. Paul reminds the Thessalonians that he shared not only the Gospel with them, but their lives. He understood that there can be no debate about the life saving reality of the gospel when we live authentic lives to those around us. How can you use this season to live out the Gospel to those around you? Where do you begin in your community?
