Seeking God Above All Else
Recently I have been impacted by one of the things Pastor David said in his message on New Year’s Eve. He said that if we want to know the will of God, we must spend time in the presence of God. One of my favorite passages in all of Scripture is Ps. 27:4:
“The one thing I ask of the Lord— the thing I seek most—is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in His Temple.”
David would have spent time in the Tabernacle, the portable structure that God had the Israelites put together all the way back when they left Egypt. It was the place where God dwelt with His people at that time. It was central to their lives and represented the place where they could bring sacrifices and praises, and bring proximity between them and God.
Now We Are the Temple
What is so amazing about this for us today is that because of Christ and His finished work on the cross and His resurrection, we are now the Temple of God.
1 Corinthians 3:16 “Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?”
Now we are able to commune with God, delight in Him and His perfections, and meditate on Him for all eternity when we are saved and thereby indwelt with His Holy Spirit.
Maybe before I start seeking His will, I first need to make sure I am seeking Him above all else. If He is my focus and my priority, then I am certain He will make His will known to me.
Will you join me on this mission?
