Share the Precious Gift of True Love

I just LOVE this time of year! The closer it gets, the more excited I get.

I’m thinking of ways to surprise my family and friends with the perfect gift right up until Christmas day. I want each of them to know how special they are to me by getting the gift that shows them I know what they want, like and need.

God does this for us in the first coming of Christ. All throughout Scripture, He is taking seemingly "nobodies from nowhere" to show how great His love is.

Christmas follows this same pattern. A young, engaged couple, seemingly nobodies from nowhere, in the most unlikely place and time. Think about that time: political unrest, a required trip to Bethlehem about 100 miles away and the perceived scandal as they were not married.

This was the precise moment crafted from before the foundation of the world for God to send the greatest Gift ever. The Gift that showed He had been watching. He knew us. He knew what we wanted and needed.

In one of his letters to the Church, John shares the essence of true love: God showed how much He loved us by sending His one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him. This is real love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. - 1 John 4:9-10

This Christmas season, let’s share this precious Gift with those in our lives. It might be in a very unlikely, inconvenient or unconventional way. But it is worth the effort to not only show we love them, but to also let them know God loves them so much that He gave Himself!
