Pentecost Sunday Celebration

Hello New Hope Family,

Pastor David talked about the Holy Spirit on Sunday, very fitting as it was Pentecost Sunday!

As you may already know, Pentecost is the day we celebrate the giving of the Holy Spirit to the believers after Jesus ascended to Heaven. But did you know that this day was already a Jewish Festival?

Shavuot was a festival time that was set by God for the nation of Israel. It was called the Festival of Weeks. It was meant to celebrate the second harvest. It is outlined in Leviticus 23 with specific instructions on how and when to celebrate.

God ordained this day ages before the actual Pentecost where the Holy Spirit would come and give the believers the ability to speak in various languages. Those abilities were used to speak the Gospel to the people who came from around the world to celebrate Shavuot in Jerusalem.

Sealed With His Holy Spirit

When we are saved, God seals us with His Holy Spirit. Once the Spirit is planted within us, His roots grow in us so that we can bear His fruit (Galatians 5). This fruit is not just for us, it is meant to nourish others with the Gospel of Christ. We are to preach the Gospel to everyone, everywhere including to ourselves. God enables us to do this and He promises that where He sends His Word, it will prosper...every time (Isaiah 55:6-13).

Always be harvesting,
