Heart of a Child

Winter in Florida is our favorite time of year to open our sliding doors at night and take in the cool breeze and beautiful sunsets. Unfortunately, we lost our pool cage when Hurricane Ian ripped through Southwest Florida in September, so it’s impossible to open the doors without giving the bugs carte blanche to come on in and enjoy some chill time with us.

A few weeks ago, my adorable 4-year-old great nephew, Levi, was visiting. We had the sliding doors open during dinner due to my amazing cooking skills … or lack of.

Levi said a prayer before we ate. His innocence was humbling.

Not only did he pray a blessing, but he also brought more, honest requests to God. With a scrunched nose, he finished his prayer with, “...and the most annoyingest is the bugs.”

Doesn’t that just melt your heart?

Matthew 18:3-4

“Truly I say to you, unless you change and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. So whoever will humble himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

I Do Not Want to Overwhelm Him

Sometimes, I become so consumed with bringing God the big, out-of-my-control stuff that I hold back the little things. I find myself delegating and negotiating my needs with Him while keeping the small things (the bugs) for myself. After all, I wouldn’t want to overwhelm or distract Him from handling the big stuff. That would be selfish of me, right?

Mark 11:24

“Therefore, I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted to you.”

Levi’s heartfelt and bold prayer reminded me that God is faithful in all things. Go to Him with the honest and humble heart of a child. He is our Father and He loves us. He longs for us to come to Him with everything, big or small, including the “most annoyingest” things.

There are no limits to what He can do.

Thank you, sweet Levi.
