God Gives Us Everything to Live a Godly Life

Have you ever felt powerless to change for the better? Most of us have – especially when we begin to live for God.

I love this simple promise for power from the Apostle Peter’s second letter to his people, 2 Peter 1:3:

Justina_Pix/Pixabay

God’s divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life...

Peter tells us that God’s divine power, that is, God’s presence in you through the Holy Spirit, is providing you what you need to live for God. That’s a promise, but there is a catch. Second Peter 1:3b tells us:

God’s divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him...

God has no interest in you living a godly life separate from Him. So He ties the promise to a relationship with Him. The provision of God’s power is through the knowledge of Him.

But the word “knowledge” isn’t just knowing information about Him – it is knowing Him. It is an ongoing and growing knowledge of God though relationship. How great is our God that He wants intimacy with you more than He wants performance? And in case you’re afraid you’re not good enough to get close enough to be strengthened by God, look at the rest of the verse:

God’s divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3c

God did not call you to be His because of your “glory and goodness.” He called you through His own “glory and goodness.”

Read more about walking with Jesus in this incredible passage (2 Peter 1:1-11). Take hold of what you need to live for God – a humble, intimate, dependent relationship with God that gives you a “knowing” that changes you.
