Belonging Together: It’s Not Always Easy, I Know

As we enter the final Sunday in the “Stay” series of sermons, it occurred to me how spot-on New Hope’s purpose and mission of bringing us together in Christ is: becoming, belonging, believing and blessing.

The belonging part is of particular interest since becoming affiliated with the church in March 2022. And I have come to learn much of that same interest brews among others with whom I spend time with on Sundays, and during Greeter Serve Team time, Belong Track connector time, midweek spiritual refueling activities and now hosting the new Message After Party Belong Group.

But it wasn’t an easy walk to get there.

Truth be told, it was a bit scary to step into any of the Belong Groups bible studies I have been part of.

  • What will I say?

  • What will I sound like to “them”?

  • What if they are all so much more knowledgeable about the Bible and His life?

Fortunately, I was thirsty and downright hungry for the Word to go all in like never before. And so glad I did because the benefits far outweigh the silly fears I had.

New Hope has given me the opportunity and boldness to step up to a higher level. Bible studies. Context. Historical settings for perspective. Baptism by immersion. Love. Compassion. Confidence. Mercy. Brotherhood, sisterhood, priesthood, discipleship.

Maybe you’re thinking, “How do I go about connecting with a Belong Group? How do Serve Teams work? What can I possibly give or stand to gain?”

Take that step. Just show up to a Belong Group on any given Sunday, weekday or special event day (mention my name and get in free :-) ). Take a moment to connect with someone from the many Serve Teams. Bring an open heart, a desire to learn, an unquenchable thirst for the Word and a desire to share your special gifts with others. It’s not too late.

See you Wednesday or Sunday,
